Effects Of Alcohol Abuse On The United States - 1871 Words

Many small towns make up the community in Putnam County, Ohio, where from weddings to graduations, to baptisms to funerals, everything is centered on excessive consumption of alcohol. According, to Healthy People, Putnam County was ranked number two in the state of Ohio for the second year in a row in alcohol consumption (Putnam County Sentinel, 2014). Approximately twenty four thousand of the thirty four thousand residents in Putnam County, Ohio are over the age of twenty one, and have access to more than one hundred and thirty establishments that serve alcohol (Ohio.gov, n. d.). Meanwhile, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines moderate drinking among women as up to one drink per day. Additionally, the number of†¦show more content†¦d.). In my community there are an increasing number of women who are turning to alcohol consumption for one reason or another. I am interested in knowing how this trend is negatively affecting women’s health; th erefore I chose this topic to research. While, this issue seems to be increasingly prevalent in this rural area, this health issue also applies to a much wider scale of female patients all across the U. S. These challenges in women’s health bring to light the question of why is alcoholism on the rise in women. In this country, drinking wine means a variety of things to different women. It may make them feel beautiful and more desired, or can help them relax or open up and connect with their peers and friends after a stressful day. Often, women s emotional connection to wine is viewed as a benign and positive act as well as portrayed as an acceptable way to self-medicate. Women are taking on more and more responsibilities and roles in their lives, and the glamorization of drinking wine advertised on social media, like Girls’ Wine Night, on television as broadcasted on the Today show, and specialty labels on wine bottles that state this is â€Å"Mommy juice†, encouraging women under the pressures o f their life to drink wine because they are deserving of it. Until recently, there have been several different categories of alcoholism and alcohol dependence that helped to

Purchasing Behaviour Associated with Fashion Clothing Research Paper

Essays on Purchasing Behaviour Associated with Fashion Clothing Research Paper The paper "Purchasing Behaviour Associated with Fashion Clothing" is an excellent example of a research paper on marketing. The aim of this study was to find out and determine the purchasing behavior associated with fashion clothing. The exploratory research approach was used with thematic analysis employed to analyze the qualitative data information. The research study established that black leather handbags, cropped tops, collared t-shirts, and dressy shirts are perceived to be fashionable, while tracksuits pants, old unflattering clothes, and one-piece dress are perceived to be unfashionable. Consumers perceive that fashionable clothing is more expensive but of high quality, while low priced clothing is of low quality and unfashionable. The most common sources of information about fashion clothing for most consumers include the internet, magazines and TV shows. In general, most consumers would want to wear fashionable clothing like designer clothing, however, financial constraints do not allow them because such fashionable clothing is usually highly-priced.Introduction and Background Importance of the researchMarket surveys usually target a selected sample of the population. This is because sampling is more convenient, reliable and less costly. However, in order to carry out a given survey effectively, proper preparation should be done. These may include the design and preparation of survey questionnaires, identification of the target population, clear identification of the sampling frame to be used and carrying out other logistical evaluations that will ensure a successful survey (Creswell, 2007). In this case study, the research conducted aimed to establish the purchasing behavior associated with fashion clothing. The approach used for the study is majorly exploratory research, a study approach that seeks to provide details and insights into a problem or situation with little and scanty information known to exist. This research study is of great significance. Global Economy and the Environment Essay Example For Students

Global Economy and the Environment Essay As the global economy gets integrated, national or local corporationswill gradually transform in to a multinational corporation (MNC). When thistype of development occurs, the host countries are usually the ones that becomethe immediate stake holders. This is because when a MNC sets its foot into ahost country, there are economic, political, social and environmental impactsthat result from their corporate actions. In many cases, it is certainlypossible that it can end up in a win-win situation, if the host country and theMNCUs both work mutually. However there have been unfortunate examples, wherethis has not been the case. In general, international agreements have its advantages, due to thefact that we can harmonize international standards. Therefore environmentalconcern is one of the key issues that the policy makers and MNCUs should set ahigh priority on. This is because growth and development is strongly correlatedwith environmental degradation. Furthermore, it is fair to say that the MNCUsare more likely to have a more harmful environmental impact from growth anddevelopment, as opposed to the local corporations. This is because MNCUs maynot be as knowledgeable as local corporations in resource utilization and landmanagement. This also refers to the notion of Rthe locals know their landbetter than anybody elseS. The tropical rain forest of Brazil is a good exampleof this. The RindigenousS or the local people have a good understanding of howto extract and utilize its resources in a very sustainable manner. However whena multinational timber company comes into Brazil, result of their actions willprob ably be more harmful, due to the fact that they are not complying to theRtraditionalS methods. Another important aspect is the fact that in any international tradeagreement, a MNC is most likely going to shift their production to a lesserdeveloped country. This is because LDCUs are a good target for cheap labor andlow start-up costs. In Robert PastorUs essay, he mentions the termmaquiladoras; Rcheaper labor that allows them (Mexicans) to assemble parts, import from the U.S. and then reexport the assembled productsS. In places suchas the maquiladoras, safety standards are not as rigid and this puts the localworkers in a serious health risk. The Rblack lungS case is an example whereminers in Latin America contracted respiratory diseases from working at unsafelyregulated coal mines. Since it was in a lesser developed country, occupationalhealth standards were lower than the usual. The Union Carbide incident fromBhopal, India is another example, where the explosion took place due to lack ofsafety and precautionary measures. Many experts have commented that the UnionCarbide inciden t could have been completely avoided, if the plant was locatedelsewhere, in a more developed country, where they have more strict standards. So there is a need for universal standard on these types of issues. Unless thisis achieved, the LDCUs would be placed in a vulnerable situations as more andmore MNCUs will take advantage of this. When MNCUs come into a host country, this increases their revenue andtheir GDP. However this does not necessarily mean that everyone benefits fromit. This is especially the case in the most third world countries. The benefitsusually go to the elites or sometimes to the ones living a more urbanized areas. This disrupts the level of equality as the few rich individuals get richer and agreat number of poverty stricken individuals get poorer. This also increasespolitical corruption. A good example of this is the case in Brazil with thediscovery of oil in the late 1960Us. The level of corruption resulted in anunprecedented amount of national debt, leaving them worse off then before. Inaddition the Brazil suffered a great deal of environmental and resourcedegradation as a result of unsound environmental activities from the MNCUs . AsWalter Reid puts it, there a need for Rgovernments to have a responsibility toinvest a share of the national benefits in rural developmentS. .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 , .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .postImageUrl , .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 , .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731:hover , .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731:visited , .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731:active { border:0!important; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731:active , .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731 .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9d48491630019a7a08f9be3f6fb91731:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Harrison Bergeron Essay Most free trades also make it more difficult to push a politicalagenda. Major power such as the U.S. use economic sanctions on other countriesto enforce their political agenda. Not too long ago, the French government wasengaged in funding for nuclear testing. Most U.N. officials as well as the U.S. were outraged by the fact that France was not complying with the internationalarms agreement. As you know nuclear testing not only encourages theinternational arms race, it also has a detrimental effect on the globalenvironment. However, because U.S. was engaged in a heavy free trade withFrance, this made it more difficult to impose an economic sanction. So there isalso a need for more serious political considerations, when being engaged in afree trade. In this case, the Department of Commerce should have carefullyreexamined the political and military criteria, before a high level of freetrade took place between the U.S and France. But as the world becomes more integrated socially and economically, the idea of expanding the international trade will have numerous benefits, ifthey are carried out in an RappropriateS manner. After all, free trade promotestransfer of living in LDCUs as well as improving economic efficiency. This alsoallows increase in efficient use of natural resource, which can have numerousenvironmental benefits. NAFTA is a good example of an environmental successwhere the U.S. EPA and MexicoUs SEDESOL worked closely together to achievecommon environmental goals. Free trades can serve as an instrument that canincrease international cooperation. However it can have an enormous unintendedconsequences. Therefore there is a need for more scrutiny in the decisionmaking process. Category: Social Issues
